My Grandmother Ella's "Dropped" Cookies

I am lucky enough to have my mother's handwritten cookbook, started when she was a young wife in the 1930s. She hand-numbered the pages and wrote in favorite recipes from friends and relatives. To add to the specialness, it was written out in my mother's handwriting years before I came along.

Now Ben can enjoy his part in this connection with the past and figure out how to make these cookies using the sketchy directions given in those days. I guess everyone back then knew how to make cookies, so they didn't need the pages and pages of exacting directions that we so often find these days in cooking magazines and online.
